File Setup Guide

Files that follow these guidelines print fastest and look best. If a file can't be printed as supplied, we'll contact you before production, which can delay your order.

SettingRequirement
File typePrint-ready PDF is our preferred file type (export as PDF/X-1a or High Quality Print, with bleed included). Please flatten transparency and embed or outline all fonts before exporting.
SizeBuild your file at the final trim size plus bleed. Example: a 3.5 x 2 in business card should be 3.75 x 2.25 in.
Bleed0.125 in on every side for most products (0.0625 in for stickers, 0.25 in for large format posters, 0.5 in for mesh banners). Extend background colors and images all the way into the bleed.
Safe areaKeep text, logos and important details at least 0.125 in inside the trim line (0.375 to 0.5 in on signs, posters and envelopes; 1.5 in on banners with grommets).
Resolution300 dpi at final size for small items; 150 dpi at final size is fine for posters, signs and banners. Images pulled from websites or social media are usually too low resolution to print well.
Color modeSupply files in CMYK. RGB files are converted to CMYK, which can make bright blues, greens and oranges look duller.
Rich blackFor large black areas use C60 M40 Y40 K100. Use 100% K only for small black text.
FontsOutline or embed all fonts. Minimum text size is 6 pt; minimum line weight is 0.25 pt.
BordersAvoid thin borders close to the trim. Cutting can shift up to 1/16 in, which makes a tight border look uneven.
Foil, spot UV, raised foilSupply a separate layer or page in 100% K solid black showing only where the foil or UV goes. Keep foil details at least 0.5 pt thick.
Two-sided itemsSend a 2-page PDF (front, then back) or two clearly named files.
Not sure your file is ready? Add a digital proof ($5) to your order and we'll check it before anything is printed. Need help with your files? See Artwork Assistance.

Print Set Up Templates

Every template is a PDF with crop marks, a red bleed line, a black/pink trim line and a blue dashed safe area. Place your design on the template, then hide or delete the guide layer before exporting. Templates open in Illustrator, InDesign, Affinity, Photoshop and Canva (upload the PDF). You can also download the matching template right on each product page.

Finishes & specialty options

  • Foil stamping (gold, silver, rose gold, holographic and more): metallic foil pressed onto paper, napkins and coasters. Foil colors can vary slightly from on-screen swatches.
  • Raised foil & spot UV: dimensional shine on selected areas of a design.
  • Embossing & letterpress: a pressed, tactile impression.
  • Painted edges: color on the edges of thick cards.
  • Rounded corners & die-cut shapes: circles, ovals, arches and custom shapes.
  • Folding & perforation: bi-fold, tri-fold, tent fold and tear-off tickets.
  • Signs: foam board, 3mm PVC, coroplast, aluminum, reflective aluminum, acrylic (clear, frosted, white, black) and mesh vinyl with grommets.
Color note: Every screen shows color differently, and paper stock, coating and material all change how ink looks. We print in CMYK and can't guarantee an exact match to your screen, a home printer, Pantone/PMS colors or a previous order printed elsewhere. If color is critical, order a printed proof.

Artwork, Proofs & Approval

Artwork submission

You're responsible for submitting print-ready files (see the File Setup Guide). If your files aren't print-ready, we may ask you for corrections or offer design help, which may have extra fees.

By placing an order, you confirm that:

  • All submitted artwork is correct and approved.
  • You own, or have permission to print, all submitted content, including logos, images, fonts and trademarks.
  • You understand and accept our production timelines and policies.

We may refuse any order that appears to infringe someone else's copyright or trademark, or that contains offensive or illegal content.

Proofs

  • Digital proof ($5): We'll email you a PDF proof showing layout, trim and safe area. Production doesn't start until you approve it, so a late approval moves your delivery date.
  • Printed proof: A physical sample on your chosen stock, for color-critical jobs. It adds time to your order.
  • No proof: If you skip the proof, we print your file as submitted. We aren't responsible for typos, spelling, grammar, layout, low-resolution images, color choices or content in files printed without a proof.
  • Your approval is final. Once you approve a proof, you accept responsibility for everything shown on it. Please check names, dates, phone numbers, addresses and spelling carefully.
  • Variable addressing & mailing lists: We print your spreadsheet exactly as you provide it. We strongly recommend a digital proof, and we can't be responsible for errors or mistakes in the data you supply. A list revision after approval is available for a fee.

Production & Turnaround Times

Standard turnaround: Most items ship within 5 to 10 business days after your artwork is fully approved, depending on order size and material availability.

"Fully approved" means:

  • All artwork has been uploaded successfully
  • Your files meet our print requirements
  • You've approved your proof, if one is required

Turnaround time doesn't include shipping time or time spent in the proofing phase. Orders aren't processed until all files and approvals are complete. Late artwork or a late approval extends your delivery date. Business days are Monday to Friday, excluding holidays.

Specialty products: 10+ business days

Some products need extra setup and production steps, so their minimum turnaround is 2 full working weeks (10+ business days) after final approval, depending on how complex the project is. These include:

  • Custom finishes and specialty materials
  • Plate creation or specialty processes: foil, letterpress, duplexing, edge painting and embossing
  • Colored envelopes: add 5 to 7 business days
  • Cocktail napkins (full color & foil): 7 to 10 business days

Rush orders

Rush printing is available for most orders, and rush fees may apply. Foil and letterpress orders can't be rushed. If you have a hard deadline, email us before you order so we can confirm we can meet it. Turnaround times are estimates, not guarantees. We aren't responsible for missed events caused by late artwork, proof delays, material shortages or carrier delays.

Changes & cancellations: You can change or cancel an order until it goes into production. Once printing has started, the order can't be cancelled or refunded.

Orders & Payment

Payment policy

Payment is required when you place your order, and your card is charged at that time. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. Prices are in US dollars, and sales tax is added where required.

Additional fees

If you ask for a change after ordering that affects the price, you're responsible for any extra cost. We'll email you a separate invoice for the difference, and it must be paid by credit card before production starts. An unpaid invoice delays the processing and shipping of your order. Additional fees can include, but aren't limited to:

  • Expedited shipping fees
  • Rush production fees
  • Setup fees
  • Premium paper or printing fees
  • Design fees

Delinquent accounts

Invoices unpaid after 30 days are charged a late fee of 2% per month. This applies to all delinquent accounts without exception and is backdated to the invoice date. If an account is still in default after 60 days, or a payment is charged back to us because of credit card fraud, check fraud or another crime, we'll send one final notice before turning the account over to a third-party collections agency. Late fees keep accruing, and you're responsible for all collection costs.

Pricing errors

We work hard to keep prices and product details accurate. If an item is listed at an incorrect price, we may contact you before production to confirm the correct price, or cancel the order and refund your payment.

FAQ's

How do I send my design?

Upload your file on the product page when you order, or choose "Email Design Later" and send it to hello@inkaprinthouse.com with your order number in the subject line.

Can you design something for me?

Yes! Our team can help with file setup, resolution issues, layout adjustments and full design. Design and setup fees apply. Request a quote or email us before you order.

How long will my order take?

Most items ship within 5 to 10 business days after your artwork is fully approved, plus shipping time. Specialty finishes like foil, letterpress, edge painting, embossing and duplexing take 10+ business days. Colored envelopes add 5 to 7 business days, and napkins take 7 to 10 business days.

Can I rush my order?

Rush printing is available for most orders, and rush fees may apply. Foil and letterpress orders can't be rushed. Email us with your deadline before you order.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes. Standard shipping is free on all orders over $150 and applies automatically at checkout.

Will I be charged shipping twice if I order different products?

No. You pay one shipping charge per order, based on total weight and your location.

Which carriers do you use?

UPS, USPS and FedEx. Contact us before you order if you need a different shipping method.

What payment methods do you accept?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. Payment is due when you place your order.

Should I get a proof?

We strongly recommend one. A digital proof is $5, and it's the best way to catch errors before printing. Orders without a proof are printed as submitted.

Why do my colors look different than on my screen?

Screens display light (RGB), while printers use ink (CMYK). Paper and coatings also affect color. Order a printed proof for color-critical jobs.

Do you match Pantone colors?

We print in full-color CMYK, which gets close to most Pantone colors but can't guarantee an exact match.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Yes, until it goes into production. Changes that affect the price are invoiced separately and must be paid before production starts. Once printing starts, orders can't be cancelled.

Do you accept returns or give refunds?

Because every item is custom made, we don't accept returns or give refunds. If there's a problem, contact us within 3 business days of delivery and we'll review it for a reprint, credit or adjustment. See Returns & Reprints.

My package arrived damaged. What do I do?

Notify the carrier and us right away, note the damage in writing, file a claim within 24 hours and keep the package as you received it. See Shipping Info.

Do you have a first-time customer discount?

Yes! Sign up with your email to get the WELCOME20 code for 20% off your first order.

Can I pick up my order?

Email us to arrange a local pickup from our shop in El Cajon, CA.

Can I print copyrighted or trademarked images?

Only if you own them or have permission to use them. By placing an order, you confirm you have the rights to print all submitted content.
